As soon as we crossed the bridge to the island, we went for a 10-kilometer walk starting from the town of Menai Bridge.
The walk first went through the town, past places like the Liverpool Arms, then out into the surrounding countryside. We got lost out there but found our way back to the town.
We visited Beaumaris Castle, another of the castles built in the 13th century. This was the last one to be built, and it was never finished.
At the far end of the island, near Holyhead, was RSPB’s South Stack bird preserve. There was a lookout building with telescopes, but to see the birds nesting you had to go down the steps towards the lighthouse.
On the cliffs here were thousands of nesting guillemots, fulmars, and kittiwakes. Among them we managed to pick out a few puffins.
