Pictures from the Tour de France
In Hyde Park, near the start of the prologue, was this flower bed.
During the opening ceremony, all the cyclists rode up and down the road. This is Thor Hushovd, the pride of Norwegian cycling.
At the media centre near the finish line, the announcers were preparing to go to work. Paul Sherwen took a moment to pose for the paparazzi.
David Millar was the British rider touted to win the prologue time trial. But nobody could come near Fabian Cancellara that day and Millar ended up 13th.
The riders travel around between stages in big tour buses like this one.
Before the riders start the race, they are preceded by a publicity caravan. All of the race sponsors have vehicles that blare out advertising and some of them throw trinkets to the spectators.
When a race stage starts (like Stage 1 in Greenwich), the race leader wearing the yellow jersey leads out. In this picture he is also wearing a yellow helmet.
