Canada FlagJust like last year, we got up at 4:30 in the morning and Caroline drove us to the airport. The flight left at 7 am and at 8 am we had breakfast, Egg McMuffin and orange juice. It was a quiet flight and we slept or read for most of it.

The LanChile flight to Santiago was also uneventful and we spent a fair amount of time sleeping. Skies were clear and we had some nice views; this year the plane did not go out over the ocean, but instead followed the coast down into Central America where we saw several high volcanoes just before sunset. By the time we reached Lima we had been served lunch (chicken and peppers in tomato sauce with rice, green salad, strawberry cheesecake) and dinner (pasta in cream sauce with veggies, caramel cheesecake).

In Lima we had a 45-minute stopover, and the Japanese tour group sitting near us left the plane. Last year we didn’t see any Japanese tourists.
